New actions for 2009…
International Seminar for the Institutional Establishment and the legal status of Protected Areas, 10-17 March 2008, Paranesti, Drama.
Callisto, in the framework of the project “Youth in Action 2007-2013” is organizing a 7-day training seminar for new volunteers (and not only) regarding the legal and institutional aspects of the protection and management of Protected Areas.
The seminar gives an emphasis on the trans-border areas, the European ecological networks (such as Natura 2000) and generally the international cooperation. With the participation of 9 organizations from 7 Balkan countries, the contribution of specialized scientists, biologists and legal advisers, and the choice of one of the most important trans-border areas of the Balkans for the hosting of the seminar, we are looking forward to a procedure that will comprise an important qualification for young people that are interested professionally or voluntarily in the management and protection. The seminar will be combined with tours in the area of the Prefectures of Drama and Ksanthi.
The participation is free, while Callisto will cover the expenses for the accommodation and alimentation. Due to the limited number of participants we expect from now your intent.

The need for voluntary fire protection
This year’s experiences, the ones of the tragic fires, but also the nice ones of the team work, showed us how valuable the contribution of all is. Especially, when it has to do with the monitoring and the direct suppression of fire nuclei, it seems that the volunteer groups can play an important role, completing of course the gaps of the public structures, but also preventing this way many catastrophes.
This period we are trying to reassure the necessary requisites in order to repeat relevant activities next year in an even larger scale, train volunteers on forest protection and broaden our volunteer department.
